Sales Mindset

Your Sales Mindset Upgrade, Point #1: The biggest myth - sales is uncomfortable, pushy, and wrong. Do not believe that.

If you are not selling enough, then some part of you still believes this myth about sales. The truth is, if you have a deep love and belief in what you are doing, this will relieve any of your selling hesitancy. By having a deep belief, you are shifting your reluctance into personal pride, you won’t only be happy to talk about your product but you’ll want to tell everyone because of that deep sense of pride.

Here’s the deal – I get it. Feeling like selling is uncomfortable or comes off pushy, it’s so easy to believe. The truth is, people, get in their heads and they begin to block themselves off from selling. They don’t raise their prices as much as they should or as much as their product is worth, because they’re afraid to charge that much.

One of the biggest mistakes I personally made in business, was when I began creating courses.  I launched a membership site and sent out the announcement to my entire email list. The first mistake and lesson were that I failed to niche down and I targeted all sorts of people to this membership program. My email list was not targeted or segmented at all. My second mistake and lesson were that I offered the membership program for FREE to the first twenty people who gave me a reason why they should join. This was such a profound lesson for me, I realized that the free offer significantly impacted those who joined the program. This affected their motivation to INVEST and participate.

Your Sales Mindset Upgrade, Point #2: Your customers' personal investment is in direct proportion to their financial investment. It’s a direct indicator of their outcome.

I want you to think about things you pay $27 for vs. $2,700. Which one are you more committed to? If the more money you invest, the more action you will take, then why is it so hard or wrong to sell? If you know your customers will be more motivated when they invest or exchange money for your offer, isn’t it your responsibility to charge them?

If you know your customers aren’t financially committed, this is easier for you to not be as mentally committed. If everyone believed selling was pushy or wrong, then you could never have invested in the mentors and programs that have helped you. How committed would you have been if you got all those resources for free? Would you have shown up in the same way? If you keep believing that selling is wrong or sleazy, then you won’t sell as much as you should, you will get frustrated and you won’t get to impact the people who need and deserve your help.

Let’s drop the belief that selling is sleazy FOREVER. Instead, go down a path where you adopt the belief that selling is helping. Selling is offering your services that a customer has a choice to invest in. You’re not MAKING them buy it, that would be pushy. Instead, you’re giving them a choice to invest in a solution that they need.

Your Sales Mindset Upgrade, Point #3: You are depriving people of your genius when you’re too afraid to sell.

The truth is, if you are not selling enough, you are not helping enough. You are depriving people of your genius when you’re too afraid to sell. What I have noticed is that once someone gets sold on the idea to sell, they find themselves asking questions like, okay what’s next? I need the sales techniques and strategies so I can go make the sales. Today, I’m not going to give those to you, because before you can implement a single sales strategy, you need the right sales mindset. In all of my programs, including a program coming up in August, I always emphasize a sales mindset.

Having the right sales mindset is the foundation of every sale, regardless of price. I will give you four things to help you get grounded to sell effortlessly and feel comfortable. Remember, selling is helping, it should feel comfortable!

  1. Your why. Think about why you even want to sell and offer your product, where does the burning desire come from?
  2. Love what you do. You have to be passionate, excited, and wake up wanting to do it, not HAVING to do it.
  3. Belief system. Be so grounded in your beliefs. Believe that you’re the best and your product or service is the best.
  4. Candy bar resilience. Imagine when you were a child and you wanted a candy bar, you knew you deserved it, and you knew you’d be better off with it. When your parents would say no, you didn’t give up. It’s the same concept with sales.

Your Sales Mindset Upgrade: The Bottomline

So here’s your breakthrough game plan: Go make a sale! Help as many people as you possibly can. Understand your reasoning for why you want to offer your products. Do what you love and get that candy bar resilience factor, get that energetic exchange of money, and form deep commitments from customers who take action. From this, everyone wins.

As a business person and entrepreneur who reframes selling as helping, you’ll never have to sell again. You just help and collect money.
