Overcoming Self Doubt

Overcoming Self Doubt and Uncertainty, Point #1: Why you shouldn’t feel like an imposter for teaching what you’ve been taught.

Any time you are experiencing self-doubt or uncertainty or imposter syndrome, those feelings all originate from similar places. One common source is the thought that you learned how to do your job from someone else. So why would customers want to learn from you when they could learn from the top person in your industry or the person who’s ten times more successful on paper than you are?

The truth is, maybe customers could learn from that person – but maybe they couldn’t because they can’t afford it or they gel better with you. And whoever taught you your stuff had to learn it from someone else too. They tweaked what their mentor taught them and made it their own, and you can do the same. You have your own set of experiences, beliefs and lessons learned that you can apply to your method. And customers will ultimately pick to work with people they relate to.

Even if coaches are talking about the exact same topic, they’re going to use different metaphors and different messaging. And great coaches are going to figure out the best way to communicate their message.

Overcoming Self Doubt and Uncertainty, Point #2: How comparison leads to self-doubt, and actionable strategies to help you stop comparing.

Another big trigger of self-doubt is the comparison trap. I want you to ask yourself: Is scrolling through Instagram endlessly and comparing yourself to other entrepreneurs actually helping you? Is that helping you grow your business or is it actually getting in the way?

I think you know the answer…so how do you stop comparing?

First, instead of focusing on other people, focus on yourself and what makes you relatable. What are your connection points to potential customers? These points can be as simple as loving dogs and playing tennis, but they’re still going to help you connect to clients on a deeper level if they are passionate about the same topics. So instead of filling your mind with self-doubt and uncertainty, why not just open up your heart in a way that shows the unique, cool traits that make you, you?

Plus, there’s one HUGE bonus to knowing someone else is teaching the same thing you are: it shows that there is a market for your services. And clients aren’t usually comparing the coaches. They’re focused on themselves and their growth and learning. So when you feel self-doubt, refocus your attention away from yourself and to your potential customers.

Overcoming Self Doubt and Uncertainty, Point #3: The importance of giving off confident vibes and steps to take to boost your confidence and your clients’ results.

As cliche as it sounds, your vibe attracts your tribe. So I want you to ask yourself: What energy are you putting out? Are you putting out those feelings of self-doubt or of confidently helping people?

Because if you’re confident, you’ll attract people who are confident about themselves and about you. And another common trigger for self-doubt is that people have a story in their head that makes them feel less worthy. For example, while I was working in corporate, I had a story that I was too young. But I got past that by:

  • Looking for evidence of the contrary. So in this example, you could look for evidence of young people making millions of dollars.
  • Focus on your client and realize it’s selfish to focus on your own negative story instead of them. And the minute you focus 100% on your client, that’s when you’re going to help them get the best results.
  • Ask yourself questions like: Who are your clients? Who’s following you? Who’s engaging with you? Who are you coaching and helping and impacting? What kind of impact and income have you seen in your business and their business? Those kinds of questions will help you ditch that inner critic.

And instead of spending time comparing yourself to others, I want you to focus on how you are different and accentuate those unique traits! Figure out what makes you special and use that to connect with potential clients at a deeper level.

Then, document your true expertise and your abilities by creating an evidence file on your computer or in a box or whatever. Include testimonials and client wins and info about why clients choose to work for you. That way, the next time you need a confidence boost, you can look at this file and be able to show up for your people in the most authentic, relatable way!

Overcoming Self Doubt and Uncertainty: The Bottomline

So the next time you feel self-doubt, I encourage you to complete this breakthrough challenge: take the focus off of you and your feelings of self-doubt and uncertainty and put the focus on your clients and how you can help them. Because once you do that, you will have the most massive breakthroughs and so will your clients.
