And today I’m sharing a sales experience that I had with my stepdaughter and her friend to point out some key strategies that’ll help you make more sales. For all the details, listen to ALL of episode 62 of the Breakthrough Babe Podcast on your fave streaming platform.
Recently my stepdaughter and her friend had the idea to do a lemonade stand. The best part about them doing the lemonade stand was that there were a ton of incredible lessons learned from the experience. Just like in any business, there are many things you can do to create more sales and they were able to learn some of the best tips and strategies during this experience.
When the girls first started selling their lemonade, they decided to set up and sell it by the tennis courts. After a few hours, they had only made a couple of sales. They realized that they needed to change location because no one had their money on them while they were playing tennis.
This was a key lesson. They realized they needed to move where their target audience was. So, they decided to move to the golf course where they figured there’d be mostly men and they would most likely be carrying their wallets with them.
From this lemonade stand experience, the girls learned that going where your audience can afford your products and services is critical for you to make sales. This applies to any industry!
They also learned that it’s important to be open to testing new ideas out. It’s important not to get discouraged if something isn’t working. Don’t give up, see if you can find a better way to make the sale.
Another lesson learned is that confidence is key. When the girls moved to the golf course, they were making way more sales. One guy on the golf course bought a cookie for $1 and handed my stepdaughter $20. Without hesitation, she asked if he wanted change or if he wanted her to keep the change. She said it with such confidence to him that he ended up telling her to keep the change!
The girls were also trying to sell additional items to people who were already buying something from them. They started off by asking the customers if there was anything else they could get for them.
When you are trying to provide an upsell, it should not be a yes or no question. It’s best to phrase it in a way where the audience feels that they don’t have an option, that they have to have it. The girls were able to reframe their questions to ask the customers what else they could get for them and they did way better on making upsales.
