If testimonials really can increase your sales, why are so few people using them, or using them rarely?
I believe it’s because for many people, it feels like bragging. But it’s not!
Let me share with you something my husband, Jeff Gitomer, often says: “When you say something about yourself, it’s bragging. When someone else says something about you, it’s proof!”
Using a testimonial is not bragging. You’re getting someone else to validate the hard work you do. And I promise you that potential clients won’t see it as bragging either. They’ll appreciate it!
Testimonials are proof of the good work that you do, but they’re more than that to your potential clients.
Testimonials show that someone else achieved the transformation that your clients want to achieve. Someone else did it!
You want to be relatable to your clients, but you also have to realize that because you’re the expert and the authority, there will be some gap between you and them. They’ll automatically be able to relate to other clients you’ve worked with since they’re at the same level.
When potential clients hear the story of someone you’ve worked with who’s had success, they’ll be inspired to take action. That’s what leads to the increase in sales!

Before you even start working on your own testimonials, I’d highly recommend offering to give testimonials for other people. If you’ve benefited from the work of your own coach or other service providers, offer to do a testimonial for them!
Then, think about the clients who have had awesome wins. Ask them if you can feature their story. Maybe you can invite them onto a Facebook live or your own podcast. They’ll tell their own story of success, but they’ll also naturally talk about you and your work if you’ve been impactful.
Finally, look for your reviews that are already out there. Are people talking about you on Instagram? Linkedin? Facebook? Capture and cultivate those reviews.
My team has a Canva folder of all our testimonials. We save them and then put them on our website. You can totally do something similar!
You can talk about yourself and your hard work all day (and you should!), but it makes a powerful difference to hear someone else’s validation. Think about when you seek out services for yourself. Does it make a difference to you to hear a good review, testimonial, or referral? It will make a difference to your potential clients too!
