Getting In Your Own Way

Are You Getting In Your Own Way of Your Success Point #1: Getting in your own way of success, AKA self-sabotage.

What is self-sabotage? Self-sabotage is the act of preventing yourself from achieving a goal that you’ve set out to accomplish. This means, you have an intention and then something or someone is keeping you from making it happen. Whatever is preventing you from making your goals happen is not a circumstance, it’s a personal situation. When you’re getting in your own way, usually you’re not taking the actions you know you need to take, to achieve that goal or intention.

You come up with this amazing goal that you wish to achieve, as you’re going through the motions to achieve the goal, you are preventing yourself. Here’s the thing, it’s hard to acknowledge when you’re getting in your own way.

Most of the time when you’re getting in your own way, it’s so much easier to blame something or someone else, rather than taking radical responsibility and owning it. Dig deep and figure out if you’re getting in your own way if you’re not at the level you have been striving for. If you feel like you keep almost getting there, but it just doesn’t happen, you need to take a step back and determine if you are getting in your own way.

Are You Getting In Your Own Way of Your Success, Point #2: To fix and cure yourself of self-sabotage - you have to identify it.

Self-sabotage is so deceptive, it may be happening to you and you may not see it. It’s like a hidden virus in your mind that you can cure. First, to cure this issue, you need to identify it. How do you figure that out? Look at yourself under a self-reflective microscope, investigate, search for clues and evidence.

For example, look at your activities and actions. Is there anything there that you may need to correct so that you can get back on your path to achievement? You may be wondering, why do we get in our own way of success? Everyone does it, the reason why is simple, every time you get in your own way – there’s always a hidden benefit.

Let me explain, let’s say you want to launch a course, bring in $100,000 worth of sales. To achieve this, you do some activities to get there, you know it’s achievable, but you keep leaving the most important activities off. You’re not doing the revenue-generating activities, instead you focus on the tasks that keep you busy but not effective.

What’s the hidden benefit of this? Maybe you’re keeping yourself safe, you’re afraid to shine too bright, or hesitant to make too much money. You may be afraid of success, or feel as if you don’t deserve it. So you prevent yourself from getting the result you want to keep yourself safe, in that zone of comfort.

Are You Getting In Your Own Way of Your Success, Point #3: Get out of your zone of comfort and into your zone of genius.

Let me share my personal story – just this past week I hopped on a call with my coach. I’m thinking it was going to be an easy laid-back conversation, however, she kicked my butt. I have a master class coming up on July 29th on www.jengitomer.com/masterclass that’s all about how to turn cold followers into course sales within 60 minutes. I was explaining to my coach about the webinar coming up, and she asked how I was promoting it.

I typically have a promotional method that I utilize with my clients, however, I was not implementing this method for myself. I didn’t have that many webinar registrants at the time either. My coach went on to ask me why I was getting in my own way, what was benefitting me from this?

The truth is, I wasn’t using my own formula, my coach called me out and helped me see that I was in a self-sabotage mode. Sometimes we just need someone to call us out in a loving way and get us out of that zone of comfort and into a zone of genius.

Are You Getting In Your Own Way of Your Success: The Bottomline

So here’s your breakthrough game plan: ask yourself if you are getting in your own way? Think about what’s working and not working for you. Are there areas of your business life that you could take more responsibility? Once you figure that out, you will be on an even greater path to success.
