Building a Business

Building a Business, Point #1: Why the hustle-and-bustle work culture in corporate America is TOTAL BS.

Today we’re talking about the work culture that permeates in corporate America and how it can limit you and your business towards achieving great success. Growing up, we were taught that we need to hustle and bustle to become wealthy and successful.

Are you working the 9-5 hours every day, and sometimes, even beyond that on your business? You might be disillusioned by the American dream and you might find yourself burned out, angry, and frustrated.

I see so many entrepreneurs get sucked by the toxic hustle and bustle culture. I realized no one wanted that intentionally. What happens is you start with one small decision, like skipping family dinner for work, and all of a sudden, you’re already building your entire life around your business. If you’re like this, you have to rethink your priorities so you won’t regret your decision in the future!

Building a Business, Point #2: How you build your business is going to determine how you choose to live your life.

If you want to live a good and fulfilling life, you have to be mindful of the priorities and boundaries you set between you, your life, and your business. So how do you figure out the boundaries so you can set them accordingly?

Ask yourself what your non-negotiables are. These are the things that matter to you the most. These are your priorities in life and you will not let anything override it. I want you to write them down and engrave them into your mindset.

The next thing to think about is your ideal day. Ask yourself:

  • What do I want to do?
  • What do I enjoy the most?
  • How many hours a day do I want to be working?

When you figure out the answers to these questions, you start restructuring your life and work routine around it. Working fewer hours doesn’t mean less productivity. The funny thing about time is that the more time you allot to a task, the more you fill that hole with stuff to do. For example, you give yourself two hours to accomplish that one task, then it’s going to take you two hours to do it. If you give yourself four hours to do the same task, you’ll figure out a way to spend four hours doing the same thing.

Building a Business, Point #3: If you want to provide the biggest impact on your clients, you must serve and support yourself too.

Imagine you have all the time and the freedom in the world, how would you be running your business? I’ll tell you this, you wouldn’t wake up scrambling with work tasks and worrying about what to accomplish first. What you’ll do is start your day focusing on yourself. I’ve met with hundreds of successful CEOs, and every single one of them starts their day for themselves. They focus on their energy, their health, their morning routines, whatever it is that they deem important for their personal growth.

So the question becomes, are you prioritizing yourself? If you want to become a 7-8 figure CEO, you need to embody that person within. You’ll be starting your day with the right foundation and with the right energy. Remember that this is the most important part of you, the one that everyone doesn’t see immediately. When you are restructuring your life around the CEO lifestyle and mindset, you are becoming the foundation and blueprint for the future YOU.

Building a Business, Point #4: As a CEO, you become your own architect in life and your business.

When you decided to become a CEO, you also decided to take action for your life and career. You cannot wait around for somebody to decide for you. No one’s going to tell you that it’s okay to get a pedicure, to take a break off work, or to take that dream vacation of yours. The only person who can give you that permission is yourself.

You can architect and build your business with a blueprint that works. You can create an amazing blueprint that works for your needs with all the constraints that you’re experiencing and all the non-negotiable constraints that you desire and realize. You can build all of that into your business if you sit down and outline what you want it to look like. When you finally decide for yourself, you can have your ideal day every day.

Building a Business: The Bottomline

I understand that setting up the boundaries when building a business almost seems impossible, especially if you’re working in a personal brand business. It’s almost like you’re constantly working. Despite this, you have to keep in mind that if you want to be the source of light and energy for your community, you have to have the foundation to do so.

So your breakthrough game plan challenge for this week is to define your ideal day, break it down, and make it happen. Give yourself permission to put yourself first and the rest will follow. Be mindful of every decision that you make so you don’t end up in a place when you’re already building your life around your business because you’ll either end up changing the route (and get left behind!) or painfully regret taking that route.
