What the heck is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is a new audio-only social media app that sort of feels like a free-flowing podcast. It allows you to join different “rooms” based on your interests, jump in, and interact with people. When you enter a room, you can either just listen, participate through speaking, or leave the room and find another one. You can also start your own rooms. Right now, you have to get an invite to the app before you can use it, although this may change soon. And you have to have an iPhone to use it. But if you do have the ability to join, I highly recommend checking it out.

Personally, I really like the fact that it’s audio-only. You don’t have to brush your hair or put on makeup to be part of it. You can just chill! And you can use the app wherever you want. What’s also really cool is that there are so many different rooms out there for different interest areas. And they range in size too. For example, I went to a Law of Attraction room the other day. And I’ve been hosting a room for female entrepreneurs. Again, if you have the ability, get on, and find rooms that are of interest to you!

Strategies for Using the App.

You always want your time on a social media app to be useful to you. Don’t just waste your time! So it’s important to go in with a strategy so that you can get the most out of it. Here are some things that have worked for me:

  1. Group size: I have found that rooms of about 30-50 people are a good size. That way there’s a variety of people, but it’s not too big. People definitely get a chance to speak.
  2. Entering rooms: When I go into a room, I always listen first. If I find the content valuable and the speaker trustworthy, I can decide if I want to stay. Then if I feel I have something of value to contribute, I can speak.
  3. Interacting with speakers: It’s awesome to connect with speakers through direct messaging. This is a way to build solid connections with people. If you want to connect with a speaker, be sure to send a memorable message to them. Tell them what you learned from their content or how it impacted you.

Strategies for Speaking.

If you are moderating a room, I promise you: there is absolute GOLD in your audience. People have such amazing ideas to contribute. Remember that, and look for that gold. Encourage people to speak, and help them feel welcome and comfortable in your space.

And if you’re participating in a room and want to say something, SAY IT! I know it can feel really intimidating to speak up. Especially if you’re comparing yourself to other people, it might feel scary. But your ideas matter! People will want to hear what you have to say. When people hear your voice, your passion, and your enthusiasm, there will be a strong desire to connect with you.
