How to Survive the Holidays

How to survive the holidays and cope with this year being so different.

I’ve acknowledged this and so can you, this year is just different. Some places have restrictions from how many people can gather, what you can or can’t do, and when you should be wearing masks. I won’t be diving into my opinion on all of this in the episode, however, rather than focus on what you can’t do, start focusing on what you can do. If some of your traditions need to be adjusted this year compared to years past, look for the opportunities and blessings in the changes. Even if it doesn’t feel like there is one, I promise there always is if you look for it.

Think about what kind of new traditions you can create. The reality is that this year is different and things have changed, but doesn’t mean things have to be bad. It’s your choice, if you decide this year will be great no matter what, you will find a way to make Thanksgiving and the upcoming holidays great. Whether that’s going on Zoom to virtually call all of your family members or creating new traditions, find the opportunity and blessing, always.

How to be united in a time of division.

With everything going on in our world, you may have some family members who are on the total opposite spectrum of the political field than you are in. This could create tension at the get togethers during the holidays. Think about you and protect your energy. If you feel like you can’t be in the same room as this person, respect that. Give yourself grace and compassion during this time. There is more tension than ever, it’s not permanent but be compassionate with yourself.

I also want to point out that now more than ever, no matter which way you voted, you can still love the people in your circle who voted the opposite of you. It’s entirely possible. You can have total differences of opinions but don’t focus on that. Don’t bring this up with those around you, instead, remember why you love each other. Focus on things about that person you are grateful for, and set the politics aside.
