How to Build Resilience

How to Build Resilience, Point #1: A personal miracle happened overnight.

I went to Ohio to give a talk, the audience was virtual but the customer wanted me to stream from their studio in Cleveland. It was great, and after the event, I was talking with Jeffrey about Charlie, my dog. Jeffrey told me Charlie is limping a bit and I got worried because sometimes she does limp and has a neurological issue. We decided to see what happened when I got home, when I got home she wasn’t just limping. She basically couldn’t walk at all. This was soul-crushing, because whenever I’m in pain, Charlie can feel it on a soul level and we are so energetically connected.

I start wondering what to do, whether she needs to go to the vet or go to the beach. I decided to give her some CBD that night. The next morning she wakes up and is walking perfectly fine! That was recovery on an exponential level. I don’t know what was going on in her little brain but something told her how to react, respond, and recover. I was shocked.

How to Build Resilience, Point #2: A breakdown of react, respond, and recover.

I want you to think about where you’re currently at and where you want to go. Is there something you need to recover from? Maybe you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting for all the chaos happening in our world to end before you take action. Or maybe you’ve been trying to build your business but feel that it’s not exactly where you want it to be. Look at the miracle that happened to my dog, Charlie, overnight. Think about the bank account, money, and impact kind of miracle you could have if you stay as resilient as Charlie did. No matter where you’re at right now and what’s hurting you, resilience is the key to recovery.

Resilience is how you react, respond, and recover. Let’s break that down, how do you react? For me, I could’ve gotten home and saw how much pain my dog was in, and she could have growled or barked at me, but she didn’t. If you do a launch and don’t like the outcome of it, how will you react? Are you going to throw it all away and give up or are you going to get back up and try again? You have a choice on what kind of reaction you have as well as how you respond. Do you look at what’s happening in the world right now and think of it as a shit show, or do you think about how there’s a shit show happening but not in your internal universe? What’s going on in your head is all that matters, what’s going on in your head impacts your actions and creates your response.

How to Build Resilience, Point #3: The step that many people overlook when it comes to building resilience.

A lot of people don’t take that step back to look at what’s going on in their life and what results they are currently getting. A lot of people don’t step back to analyze how they are reacting and responding to situations. This ends up in a continuous cycle of not getting the results they want. At the beginning of the pandemic, I believe many people were taking this as a time to reflect and analyze their life. Now it’s been a couple of months, and seeing how much that has helped people to think about what they truly want to do in life and what their passions are has accelerated a lot of businesses that people would’ve just sat on for a while.

Imagine if you do this to your business consistently. I would say quarterly or even sometimes monthly. You should always be looking at what you’re building and how it’s serving clients. Look at everything and determine what needs to be tweaked or adjusted, and what needs to be dropped because it’s no longer serving you. By taking a step back and figuring out where you are in this game of life will be huge and powerful. So many people skip that part of the puzzle, they skip that part of the CEO game. If you are reading this right now and thinking to yourself that everything is going so great and you’ve achieved everything you want, that means you are not open to digging deeper into your heart to figure out if there’s anything that needs improvement.

How to Build Resilience by Allowing Rest and Recovery: The Bottomline

Here’s your breakthrough game plan – whether you’re trying to recover or not, pause and reflect on this week. Take a step back.

Look at your business from the outside in, are you working enough on your business rather than in your business? Are your activities revenue-generating activities? Are you recovering in a way that you’ve always hoped you would recover from this pandemic? I wish you an amazing breakthrough recovery week!
