Change Your Focus

Change Your Focus: Shifting the focus from today's climate to things that actually matter.

Today’s climate is CRAZY, there is a lot of tense and anxious energy going around the election in the country. And I keep remembering a guest that we had on the podcast I host with my husband, the great Daniel Burris. He said, “In times of uncertainty, focus on what you’re certain about.”

The truth is, there is a lot of crap in the air right now, but we have to keep our heads on straight and remember to shift our focus to where it actually matters: ourselves. Focus on yourself, focus on whatever you feel is going to help you be your best self, focus on YOU no matter what. You’re going to create the future that you want, no matter what the results of the election are.

Change Your Focus: Identifying the roadblock that is an unrealistic expectation.

Last week, I was at the beach and I’m starting to record resources for my course. Then migraines occur. Then construction noises. Then dogs are barking. Literally, everytime I started my recording, I had to stop and restart and the frustration and overwhelm started to kick in. It was even becoming too much for me, little miss sunshine optimist with a positive attitude embedded in my DNA. I mean, we’ve all been there, and you know it’s so freaking frustrating. The next day, I realized I was setting unrealistic expectations for myself. And I want you to think about that: have you ever set unrealistic expectations for yourself? Do you beat yourself up when you don’t meet these unrealistic expectations?

You’re probably shaking your head right now in agreement because Breakthrough Babes are high achievers, and high achievers are the ones who usually set these ridiculous goals. So I’m going to give you a framework on how to let go and release all the negative energy that comes with unrealistic goal setting.

First off, I want you to realize that these expectations are predictions of the future, and the fact that it is a prediction means it will always be uncertain. Unfortunately for us, our mind doesn’t like uncertainty. It feels uncomfortable not knowing the outcome. So it adapts by creating these expectations.

The problem then lies in the unfulfillment of these expectations because it pushes us to the negative vibrational state. And when we’re at this state, it pushes us further into the void of disappointments and negativity.

Change Your Focus: My framework to help you give yourself what you need.

So what can happen if you just let go of expectations? What can happen if you refuse to fall down into the void of negative vibrational energy? What can happen if you decide to offer yourself awareness first? I’ll tell you what happens: you will give yourself grace, acceptance, and compassion like you would to a friend and you will happen 100% much better than before. So that’s our framework for today: awareness first, followed by grace and compassion for yourself.

And if you’re thinking, “It’s easier said than done, Jen!” I know! That’s why I recommend you use movement, whether dancing, running, or anything physical, that would help you release your body from that negative vibrational state to a calm, restful state. Once you do that, think about what you’re grateful for, think about your accomplishment, and think about the opportunities you have created for you and for others. This is the gratitude state, this is where we let go of all the damaging expectations for ourselves. And when you get to this state, you can flow more freely and create everything you want in your business. Ultimately, you’re going to live with a positive mindset, a happy life, and a profitable business.

When we hold ourselves to these expectations, we’re not being fair to ourselves.

So don’t let these expectations control you and your life. When you begin to let go of all the disappointments from not meeting your self-appointed expectations, all of your creative juices will flow, your alignment will be so much more in tune, and most importantly, you will change your focus from a solution-oriented mindset to problem-oriented mindset.
